Siesta Key

Known as America’s #1 Beach, the beautiful Siesta Key is an eight-mile-long barrier island located off the southwest coast of Florida, between Roberts Bay and the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The island encompasses roughly 3.5 square miles, the majority of which is considered a census-designated place within Sarasota County, while a portion is located within the city of Sarasota. Siesta Key is divided into four major districts: Siesta Beach, Crescent Beach, Turtle Beach, and Siesta Key Village.

Siesta Key is the perfect place to live for those looking forward to a relaxing beachfront lifestyle – after all, it isn’t named the nation’s #1 beach (twice!) for no reason. The picturesque island community has something to offer for residents of all ages, whether they’re looking for the perfect vacation home or a permanent residence offering access to the famous, white quartz sand that is always cool under your feet year-round or the wealth of top dining and nightlife.

Siesta Key

History

The Siesta Land Company supervised the initial development of the key in 1907 by dredging bayous, constructing docks, and designating the northern section of the key as “Siesta on the Gulf.” Back then, access to Siesta Key was only possible via ferry or boat, before a bridge was completed in 1917, which connected the key to the mainland. In 1952, the entire barrier island was officially recognized as “Siesta Key.”
